Les Scarabées de Scaro Joaillerie

Dec 17, 2016

5 Reasons To See Les Grands Ballets' The Nutcracker

Dec 13, 2016

I was only 3-years-old the first time my mother took me at Place-des-Arts to see The Nutcracker by Les Grands Ballets. While I can’t say that I have fond memories from that particular day, I now have a deep connection with the ballet choreographed by the late Fernand NaultOver the years, I have had the chance to see The Nutcracker countless time, and I was also lucky enough to be selected to play an angel one year. It was such a memorable experience to be on stage with so many talented dancers and hear the orchestra perform the iconic Tchaïchovski score every night. It was most certainly one of the most exciting periods in my life.

Since I am so passionate about The Nutcracker, I thought I’d share with you five reasons to get tickets for this famous piece from the classical ballet repertoire:

1. To put you in a festive mood. Indeed, there’s nothing else like the two-act ballet based on Hoffmann’s classic tale to kick off the holiday season. The story of Clara and her Nutcracker is the ultimate holiday fairytale, which is why so many families enjoy the ballet year after year (and you can even get discounted tickets for children aged 12 and under!).

2. Because Fernand Nault’s choreography is simply brilliant and timeless. It features 165 characters, including 34 company dancers who very often play different roles showcasing their versatility and immense talent. The ballet also includes many young dancers who perform on stage for the first time as a mouse, a child of the party, an angel, an oriental or a sheep.

3. To hear the delightful music composed by Tchaïchovski—also famous for other ballet masterpieces such as Swan Lake and The Sleeping Beauty—conducted with great poised by Florian Ziemen and performed by the orchestra of Les Grands Ballets.

4. To admire the intricate and colourful work by world-renowned costume designer François Barbeau, the enchanting setting made by Peter Horne as well as the magical lighting designs by Nicholas Cernovitch.

5. Because 2,000,000 spectators have seen the ballet since its creation in 1964. Not only that, Les Grands’ version of The Nutcracker is breaking the national record of the show that has played for the longest time in the same venue in all of Canada. Isn’t that impressive?

The Nutcracker will be presented until December 30th at La Place-des-Art.

November Favourites

Dec 1, 2016

The holiday collection from La Vie en Rose
Want to find out what caught my attention this month? Plenty of good finds that would also make great Christmas gifts. Here are my November favourites:

La Vie en Rose
I recently had the opportunity to visit the head office of La Vie en Rose for the unveiling of their holiday collection. I'm always eager to discover their assortment of cozy pj's. Isn’t the best thing in the world to cuddle up in a soft new pyjama on Christmas morning? Their seasonal collection certainly didn’t disappoint this year! You’ll see plenty of pyjama sets in silk or flannel, plush robes and fun cocooning accessories such as this darling eye mask or this stylish cardigan. And you’ll fall for their assortment of lavish lingerie, which includes delicate bralettes and ladylike kimonos

Roger & Gallet Aura Mirabilis
We all know Roger & Gallet for their refined fragrances and body care. But recently the French brand launched a surprising face care line named “Le soin Aura Mirabilis” after a formula created some 300 years ago. According to the legend, the powerful elixir, made with 18 distilled officinal plants, was once used by prominent women such as Josephine de Beauharnais and Queen Victoria. The Aura Mirabilis range includes four skincare products all infused with the iconic concoction: There’s the Extra-Fine Cleansing Mask, the Beauty Vinegar to remove impurities and tightens pores and the Legendary Cream, which acts as an anti-aging solution. But my ultimate favourite is the Double-Extract, a blend of silky soft water and essences perfect to restore hydration and radiance.

Jouviance PlumpFX
As a lip addict lady, I have certainly tried my share of lip plumpers over the years. But I couldn’t stand the tingling effect on my lips…until I tried PlumpFx from Jouviance. First of all, it’s not just a beautiful lip plumping gloss, it’s an anti-aging lip serum with plenty of long-term benefits. Aside from giving you fuller lips in just a few minutes, it also nourishes and softens your pout while helping to fill fine lines and wrinkles. It comes in a universally flattering pink shade, it is not tacky or sticky at all, and most importantly, the tingling effect is quite subtle. PlumpFX will be out in January.

Wella Elements Hair Strengthening Serum
If you have fine or limp hair, you’ll be delighted with my latest discovery from Wella. It’s a paraben-free serum that gives root-to-tip volume without weighing down hair. Since it’s a thick formula, only a pea-size amount is needed; otherwise, it can quickly become sticky. I just love the fuller effect I am getting ever since I started to apply this hair treatment.

Looky Brushes
Did you know that the local beauty world went crazy when Elle R Cosmétiques released their oval-shaped makeup-up brushes? While this is a good example of a hyped beauty launch, I must say that there is at least one gem among these eight brushes, and it’s their number 1, aka the Foundation Brush. Much like the entire collection, the largest brush is incredibly soft on the skin. Unlike other makeup brushes or even the BeautyBlender, it is so compact that you’ll only need an infinite amount of foundation. But what’s unique about this brush is the fact that it applies makeup evenly, therefore providing a uniform application in no time. If you only purchase one brush, look no further than this one.
