I recently received an offer I just couldn't refuse: To spend a night in one of the restyled suites at the W Montreal. Talk about an exciting proposal!
I had heard that the property was undergoing a massive renovation of its rooms and suites, so I was quite eager to be one of the first ones to discover the revamped look. Since I have had the chance to attend many events at this luxury hotel as a local, I was somehow familiar with the W touch. But now it was the perfect opportunity to experience it from a guest's perspective.
Soon after settling on a date with the hotel management, I received an email from Caroline Khangi, the W Insider, who reach out to assist me with my stay. I challenged her with three different requests, including booking a prime table at one of the most sought-after eateries in town, which is possibly the most effective way to test a concierge's connections.
On a bright Monday afternoon with a carry-on full of shoes - a girl needs to have options, I headed downtown to the W Hotel. Since my room wasn't ready, I was kindly invited to have a drink at the Bartini, aka the tiniest bar in town, nestled behind the front desk. After a nice gin & tonic and a bubbly chat with the bartender, I eventually made my way up to the ninth floor, excited like a kid who is about to see Santa.
It was love at first sight. The sun was slowly setting when I entered the room. I couldn't have picked a more magical moment to discover the place. Imagine a corner suite with stunning windows, a massive king-size bed with plush pillows, a huge glass shower full of Bliss beauty products, a divine soaking bath facing a double vanity, a Mix Bar with everything you need to quench your thirst and more, a funky gold seating area, a chic desk and a rotating flat-panel tv. From the bedding's quality, the sophisticated curtains and overall design, there's nothing in the room that wasn't designed with the guest's utmost comfort in mind. It's an inviting setting, a perfectly elegant layout to chill out, work and play.
Still in awe, I popped the champagne that was waiting for me and took a few minutes to enjoy my new playground before dinner time. After a light, but totally divine Chablis & oyster dinner, I got back to my suite with a sudden ice cream craving. I promptly call the Whatever Whenever line - a brilliant name isn't - to see if they could satisfy my urge. Ten minutes later, I was watching the late night news in bed while devouring a mouth-watering bowl of chocolate ice cream.
The weather was awesome when I woke up in my presidential suite. Instead of having breakfast in bed, I decided to go downstairs on the mini-terrace facing the hotel. After some mighty delicious eggs Benedict and quite a few cappuccinos, I made my way to the Away Spa where I had a rejuvenating Vitality facial. The esthetician slathered my face with many thirst-quenching products, it was heaven.
I had a wonderful staycation experience at the W Montreal. I even went back home feeling like I had been on a mini-holiday. And if you are curious to know, the W Insider totally made my three wishes come true, just like a genie in a bottle!
