Elle By RW&CO, A Glam Holiday Dress Collection

Sep 24, 2014

Every season, we see new fashion collaborations between retailers and designers. Some are fun, some are overhyped while others are just brilliant. An ultra-glam one will be landing in store on November 1st: RW&CO has partnered with fashion powerhouse Elle on a fancy dress collection just in time for the holiday. Comprised of 8 dresses designed by Elle Canada's Fashion Director Denis Desro, this limited edition collection will range in price from $149.90 to $169.90.

I have had a sneak peek at the collection and I would say that there is something for every one, whether you like form-fitting cuts to show off the feminine silhouette with luxurious details or you prefer to bring a dramatic edge to your look with unconventional materials. don't know about you, but there's always room in my closet for another pretty dress. And I won't let anyone convince me otherwise!

I can't get my eyes off the first one made of 3-D lace or the one mixing tulle and taffeta. What about you? Which one do you fancy?

Clarins Ladylike Collection

Sep 22, 2014

Although I tend to feel pulled in like a kid whenever I see bold colours at a makeup counter, in everyday life I much prefer neutral shades to dramatic ones. Over the years, I have had my fair share of experimenting with makeup and I have discovered the beauty of enhancing my natural features instead of trying to look like someone I am not.

If there is one makeup collection I was excited to see this season, it's the Ladylike Collection from Clarins. Once again, their highly anticipated fall makeup launch does not disappoint. With its chic gold packaging, cutting-edge formulation and sophisticated neutral shades, the Ladylike Collection is everything we could hope from the French cosmetic company.

Here are my top three picks from the latest Clarins collection:

1. Rouge Éclat in strawberry sorbet
When we enter a new season, there are two things I like to do: switch handbags and select a new lipstick. This time around, I went for a muted pink with a hint of sparkle close to my natural lip colour. I am glad that Clarins decided to add new shades to this line, which was already a favourite of mine (I wore juicy clementine during the summertime). I just love the creamy and moisturising formula, it just glides on like a dream. Strawberry sorbet is less pigmented than the previous one I tried but the colour builds on nicely if you wish and the best part is that you don't really a mirror, which makes on-the-go application much easier. It's definitely the kind of lipstick I could wear every day.

2. Ombre Matte in taupe
There are six cream-to-powder eyeshadows (5 matte and 1 sparkling) available in the fall collection and the range of colour is just so very chic. I selected the mysterious taupe shade, which can easily be worn with a light hand for a day look or smokier at night. I am quite fond of the smooth and blendable texture that is also remarkably easy to apply with fingers. Since they are made with bamboo powder, these babies have an incredible long-lasting matte finish. Once applied, there won't be any creasing or flaking, you won't believe your eyes! I am so in love with the taupe one, I now have earth and rosewood on my next shopping list.

3. Blush Prodige in tawny pink
This warm pinky brown blush is more intense than the shades I would usually choose for my complexion. Interestingly enough, it doesn't appear too dark, it rather gives a nice healthy flush of colour as if I had just returned from a brisk walk. I wasn't sure about the shimmering particles at first, but because they are so finely milled, they simply add a natural matte glow to the cheeks. This silky blush is very pigmented, only a tiny amount is needed and it will stay put throughout the day thanks again to bamboo powder.

Have you tried the Clarins Ladylike Collection? What are your current favourites?

Stylish Fall Decor Finds At HomeSense

Sep 18, 2014

HomeSense is one of my go-to destinations for furniture and decorative accessories. Although I have started decorating my place a year ago, I still visit the store every other week to find new pieces to complement my home interior. I approach decorating has a fun and creative project, as an opportunity to express my vision and my own personal style. While I spend a lot of time browsing through home decor magazines and interior design websites for inspiration, there is nothing more satisfying than finally getting your hands on a coveted accessory at a fraction of the price. Wouldn't you agree?

This season, there are two decor and entertaining themes that I look forward to seeing at HomeSense. The first one focuses on blush pink, a soft and grown-up way to use the feminine shade. We can expect chic bar carts, cut glass champagne flutes with exquisite details and ladylike accessories such as the tufted velvet bench with lucite legs seen above. The second one is an updated take on art deco with mirrored furniture, polished chrome accents as well as deep shades of gray found in decorative pillows and area rugs.

Fancy a drink? Will it be champagne or scotch?

Post-Summer Beauty Fixes

Sep 17, 2014

Now that summer is officially winding down, it's time for some face & body pampering to take care of dry skin, brittle hair and lackluster complexion. Here are 3 easy beauty fixes that you can use to feel fresh and glowing in no time:

For dull skin and parched skin
When you feel that your face has lost its vibrancy, it's usually a sign of dehydration. To get your complexion radiant again, it's always a good idea to get rid of the dry, outer layer of dead skin by performing a deep exfoliation. The glycol acid contained in this REN peel mask helps eliminate dead cells, blackheads and blemishes while moisturising the skin. The result: a healthy-looking face.

For brittle hair
To restore dry and limp hair, it's best to pick a sulfate-free shampoo that will not dry out your scalp or damage your hair follicles. This Big Body line from Kiss My Face is made with argan oil, which helps lock in essential moisture and softening the scalp. You can also leave the conditioner in a few more minutes as a hair mask to achieve silky and nourished hair. Not only will these products give you extra shiny hair, but they also have the most lovely scent.

For itchy dry skin
If you have had a little too much fun under the sun this summertime, your skin might feel a bit irritated and tight. Made with shea butter, this silky gel is so gentle and soothing on the skin. Since it has a soap, dye and alcohol-free formulation, it protects your skin from the effects of calcium-rich water (aka hard water), plus it won't strip the skin of its natural oils. I particularly like how this Laroche Posay cleansing oil transforms shower time into such a luxurious experience.

Leonce and Lena

Sep 15, 2014

Thanks to Les Grands Ballets, this coming Thursday, I will be attending my first royal wedding at Théâtre Maisonneuve. To open their 2014-15 season, the Montreal dance company is presenting Leonce and Lenacreated in 2008 by German choreographer Christian Spuck.

This contemporary ballet is an adaptation of the satiric comedy written in 1838 by the famous German author Georg Büchner. It unveils the romantic intrigue of Prince Leonce of Popo and Princess Lena of Pipi, two heirs who try to escape their fate by rebelling against their parents.

To illustrate the exaltation experienced by the young lovers and the absurd conventions from their respective principalities, Spuck uses musical compositions from a wide variety of composers ranging from Johann Strauss, Leo Delibes to Cole Porter. To add to this delight, the score of this theatrical ballet will be performed by Les Grands Ballets orchestra under the direction of conductor Florian Ziemen.

A sumptuous evening in perspective!

Leonce and Lena, Théâtre Maisonneuve, from September 18th to 27th.

My Favourite NYFW Moment: The Oscar De La Renta Finale

Sep 12, 2014

If you'd ask me to pick my favourite moment from the New York Fashion Week, it would be the colourful and ultra feminine finale at Oscar de la Renta. To be exactly precise, his entire spring 2015 collection is splendid. Between the pastel gingham outfits, the ostrich feather and eyelet details, the black & white separates and these stunning floral gowns, all the silhouettes are exquisite and ladylike in a very modern way. Plus, there is something quite fresh and optimistic about his collection that I find truly inspiring.

My Burberry, A Timeless Classic

Sep 10, 2014

Every fall we are bombarded with images of new ad campaigns promoting ready-to-wear pieces, new It bags, beauty products, shoe collections, fragrances, eyewear and fashion accessories. This season, I must confess that the gorgeous images of Mario Testino for the new Burberry fragrance "My Burberry" are  among my favourites.

I am completely smitten with the dreamy photographs featuring British fashion icons Kate Moss and Cara Delevingne, shot together for the first time. There is something so elegant and sophisticated, yet understated in a typically British way. I like the idea of focusing on the most important Burberry piece - the trench coat - which was invented by Thomas Burberry over 100 years ago. With these images, Testino brilliantly captured the classic essence of the brand by depicting what timeless elegance is about.

But enough with the pictures, have you seen the chic glass bottle? It's just so clever how its design reflects the details of the iconic coat with the bold horn-finish cap and the lovely hand-tied knot in gabardine. I am fond of the very floral fragrance inspired by a London garden after the rain. It's quite organic, comforting and luxurious like wearing a cashmere sweater when it's chilly outside. Well done Burberry!

Meet Tiffany T By Tiffany & Co.

Sep 4, 2014

Meet Tiffany T, the brand new collection to covet at Tiffany.

A few months ago, I had the honour of being invited at Tiffany to discover this upcoming collection during a private viewing. I didn't know what to expect since all of their collections are so different in style. But considering the brand's ethos, I was expecting nothing less than striking elegance.

My heart skipped a beat when I laid eyes on the minimal bracelets and monumental cuffs, the stackable rings and chain necklaces that can be worn multiple ways. Every single piece from the collection is brilliantly sophisticated in a bold and modern way.

There is a clever play of angles and curves that is a reminder of the iconic New York architecture as well as the strong energy of the city. "I wanted to create a symbol for modern life and its relentless energy that flows through New York and drives art and culture around the world" explained Francesca Amfitheatrof, Tiffany & Co.'s newly appointed design director.

It's definitely mission accomplished for the trained jeweler and silversmith, who brings with her over 20 years of experience in the fields of art and jewelry design, fragrance, furniture and interiors. Known for her collaboration with Chanel, Fendi, Marni, Alice Temperley and Alessi, Amfitheatrof is one genius tastemaker. When asked about her creative work at Tiffany, she answered, "This is just the beginning of what I hope to accomplish".

That's sounds quite promising.

Guess what is the new name on top of my personal wishlist?

Celebrate Oyster Season At Oysterfest!

Sep 3, 2014

Oyster fans rejoice!
Summer is now coming to an end but there's definitely something to be thrilled about besides layering season. It's now officially oyster season and the return of the highly anticipated culinary celebration - The 6th Annual Montreal Oysterfest
On September 6th & 7th, oyster lovers, restaurant aficionados and partygoers are invited at Terrasse Bonsecours (364, rue de la Commune) for two days of delicious food, fun and drinks. This year's edition will have over 50 partnering restaurants and sponsors, 2500-3000 attendees, live music and DJs, and as much as 14, 000 oysters! Some of the best restaurants in Montreal - Bevo, L'Orignal, Garde Manger, Flyjin, Gaspar just to name a few - will serve mouthwatering dishes while the folks from Burgundy Lion and Philemon will fix nice drinks to wash it all down.

There will also be three exciting shucking competitions, where amateurs and world-renowned shuckers will compete to achieve shucking glory. If you fancy watching the elite shuckers in action, you'll want to attend the "world class" Oyster Opening World Cup, which will take place for the first time in Montreal. And let's not the forget the Bloody Caesar Competition, where mixologists will compete for the endearing title of "Caesars of Caesars".

All Oysterfest proceeds will go to The Open Pier Foundation, a non-profit group dedicated to aquatic sustainability formed by Daniel Notkin, the event founder. What a delightful way to help the environment while indulging yourself during the last days of summer.

This is a foodie gathering not to be missed, even if you are not an oyster enthusiast!

Did I mention that I like oysters, especially if they are opened by someone else?
