Over The Musk By Mugler: A Warm and Sensual Fragrance

May 30, 2014

Although I like collecting shoes, when it comes to fragrances, I tend to be a very loyal gal.

I am not the type of woman who collects pretty perfume bottles on her dresser and who is always dreaming about expanding her perfume wardrobe. I much more prefer having a signature scent for the day and another one for the evening.

Now it looks as though a new fragrance is about to compete against Chanel Noir for my evening attention. And this last contender is Over the Musk by Mugler

This captivating scent is part of Les Exceptions, a brilliant new collection of five audacious fragrances recently launched by the House of Mugler. It also includes Chyprissime, Fougère Furieuse, Supra Floral and Oriental Express, all presented in a chic Art Deco-inspired bottle.

Created by Olivier Polge (the son of Jacques Polge, creator of Chanel Noir) and Jean-Christophe Hérault, this luxurious unisex line was developed by reinterpreting the great blends of traditional fine perfumery and giving them another life with unexpected ingredients. In the case of Over the Musk, the two "nez" had the idea of combining artificial musk (as musk deer is prohibited since 1979) with ambrette seeds to achieve a sultry and sophisticated scent.

And what a tantalising juice it is.
There is something quite mystical and addictive about this woodsy and sweet fragrance. Perhaps is it the sensual and animalistic side of the musk, which creates a warm and enthralling scent.

Mugler Les Exceptions are available at The Bay (downtown Montreal, downtown Vancouver, Toronto Queen & Yorkdale) at $185 for 80ml and $127 to refill a bottle.

When It's Gray Outside, Bring Out The Pink!

May 27, 2014
They say that when life gives you lemon, you should make lemonade. I say when mornings are gray, bring out the pink stuff!
Here are some pink beauty bits I used earlier on today to brighten up this dark and gloomy day:
  1. Voluspa candle in champagne rosé for a subtle and heartwarming scent
  2. Nuxe Rêve de Miel hand and nail cream for baby soft hands
  3. Clarins Extra-comfort, Anti-pollution Cleansing Cream, this is something I would usually use at night, but this morning my face was craving a little extra pampering
  4. Redken Pillow Proof dry shampoo to extend the life of my day-old blow-dry
  5. Multi task brush by Real Techniques to apply bronzer like a pro
  6. Vichy Idealia Life Serum to even out my complexion and add a radiant glow to my skin
  7. And last but not least, my favourite lipgloss at the moment, the long-lasting Jouviance Gloss XOXO in Bisou de Véro.

3 Dresses I Would Steal From The Cannes Red Carpet

May 20, 2014
Natasha Poly in Oscar de la Renta and De Grisogono earrings
Hilary Swank in Atelier Versace and Chopard jewellery
Julianne Moore wearing a Chanel dress and Chopard jewellery
Léa Seydoux in Prada
If there is a red carpet event I wouldn't miss for the world, along with the Met Gala that is, it's certainly the Cannes Film Festival. It's simply the most sophisticated event from a fashion standpoint. And this edition did not disappoint.

There were so many chic dresses out there. Here is a round-up of the ones I would steal because they are just so glamorous, festive and uberly feminine. I am particularly fond of the Oscar de la Renta black bustier dress made of lace and tulle worn by L'Oréal ambassador Natasha Poly. I couldn't take my eyes of her voluminous skirting and her smouldering eyes. What a breathtaking look!

While I have never fancy wearing a tuxedo before, I would like to give a special mention to one of my favourite leading actresses, Léa Seydoux, who is looking fabulous in her blue Prada tuxedo.

Clarins Truly Waterproof Mascara: No Smearing, No Smudging

May 15, 2014

Summer is finally at our doorsteps and it will soon be time for pool and beach parties. To enjoy barbecue and wedding season without worrying about your mascara running or smudging, it's time to switch to a proper waterproof mascara.

As a swimmer, I take waterproof mascara quite seriously and over the years, I have gone through my fair share of falsely labeled mascaras. Some have claimed to be waterproof but ended up giving me the infamous raccoon eyes, while others were such a pain to remove.

So when the lovely people at Clarins sent me their new Truly Waterproof Mascara, I was eager to give this chic newcomer a try.

After my usual swimming routine, a sweaty workout and a day filled with endless appointments, I was pretty amazed by the long wearing formula of this mascara. Since I have naturally thin lashes, I tend to pick mascaras that have a volumising and lengthening effect and this one really lengthen lashes without ever clumping. With its little plastics bristles, the brush does an excellent job at giving lashes beautiful definition.

While waterproof mascaras are slightly thicker than regular ones, this one doesn't dry out and is a joy to remove, as long as you use an oil-based remover. I have received the black shade and I am now considering getting the shade curaçao, a bright summery blue part of their Colours of Brazil collection.

It's definitively something to bring on your sunny escapade!

Mélissa Nepton's Capsule Collection For Thyme Maternity

May 13, 2014
I have never featured maternity-related content on my blog before. But it's not everyday that Mélissa Nepton, aka one of my favorite Montreal designers, creates a summer capsule collection for Thyme Maternity.

If there is a designer who understands that moms-to-be want to feel feminine and comfortable without sacrificing style, it's definitively the talented Mélissa Nepton, who is now expecting her second child. Known for her fluid, modern and sophisticated approach to fashion, Nepton will be launching her very feminine and flirtatious collection on May 17th in thirty-three Thyme Maternity boutiques across Canada.

Comprised of 10 key pieces, it is interesting to see how this new line also features the distinctive characteristics of Nepton's regular collection such as her signature chiffon blouses, striped tanks and draped dresses. While the designer usually includes black and white pieces in her collection, I find that the soft touches of pink and seafoam add a modern femininity to the line.

What an effortlessly chic collection, don't you agree?

Shoe Lust: Balmain Perforated Leather Pumps

May 9, 2014

I don't usually fall for shoes with gold details but this pair undeniably fits in the divine category. Designed by Balmain's Olivier Rousteing, these perforated leather pumps with a fab chunky heel and a chic ankle strap are my ideal sandals for summer in the city. I love the urban warrior vibe of these beautifully crafted heels; they are definitively edgy with a twist.

Charles James: Beyond Fashion

May 8, 2014
Twelve dancing princesses, Charles James ball gowns, 1948, photographed by Cecil Beaton
When I look at the lavish and architectural gowns designed by Charles James in this famous photograph from Cecil Beaton, I feel sad to have missed such a glamorous era.

If like me you fancy the time when people would dress up to attend the ballet or the opera, then you have until August 10th to hop on a plane to visit the Charles James: Beyond Fashion retrospective in New York City. To celebrate the career and influence of the Anglo-American couturier named "the inventor of American Haute couture", the Costume Institute will be showing seventy-five of his most celebrated dresses as well as providing an insight into his mathematical design process.

What a great excuse to visit NYC this summer!

White By Lolë, An Elegant Activewear Collection

May 6, 2014

I am sure you all know Lolë for their feminine, versatile and beautifully tailored activewear. Now did you know that they also have a well-designed and extra comfy swimwear line

I was recently on the lookout for a classic, yet elegantly understated bathing suit to swim laps. One that would stay put lap after lap while being sophisticated enough to lounge by the pool. With that in mind, I visited the Lolë store located on Sherbrooke West to browse their latest collection and I happily returned home with a gorgeous black halter top one-piece swimsuit with an empire-style waist. Mission accomplished!

While visiting the store, I also discovered the White By Lolë, an elegant activewear collection in a palette of calm neutrals and gentle white. Designed by Andy Thê-Anh, the collection is mostly made of silk, a luxurious, soft and breathable fabric perfect to wear from yoga to the street. I find the technical details, the lace paneling as well as the clean lines of this unique collection to be particularly modern and flattering.
Don't miss the Lolë White Tour at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts on May 8th and in Montreal's Old Port on August 9th!
