With springtime finally kicking in, it's time to say goodbye to rich creams and heavy foundations. Around this time of year, I want my face to feel fresh and radiant but I don't want to spend hours in front of my mirror. That's why I like to adapt my beauty routine by switching to an all-in-one skincare formula.
This season, I have adopted the new NeoStrata Wrinkle Repair Moisturizing CC Cream with SPF 30. I like the idea of using a multitasking product in the morning when I need to get out the door in no time. This creamy formula suits me perfectly because it hydrates the skin, it protects against UVA and UBV rays and it reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles with a powerful mix of Matrixyl 3000 (5%), Peptides Q10 (0.5%) and retinol (0.1%). And let's not forget, the light-reflecting pigments that help to conceal the blemishes and improve the overall texture of the skin.
Although this is a lightweight formulation, I find that I get the coverage I need and I am particularly loving the luminous glow it gives my skin. It's exactly what my face needs at the moment. No wonder this CC cream won best tinted cream over $40 at the 18th annual Elle Quebec & Canada Beauty Grands Prix awards!
NeoStrata Wrinkle Repair Moisturizing CC Cream with SPF 30, 30ml, $70 is available at major pharmacy retailers in Canada.
Pupa Milano's Vamp! Shocking Blue Compact Eyeshadow & Professional Line Eyeliner
As much as I enjoy discovering new fashion trends, when it comes to makeup, I am not exactly the first one to embrace all the wild and wicked trends out there. I know what looks good on me and in everyday life, I'd rather look polished than adventurous.
So when I saw blue eye makeup on the runway this season, my initial reaction was: "Funky, but definitively not for me!" While the electric blue seen at Marc Jacobs looked fierce, it also reminded me of the flamboyant disco era with its dramatic makeup. I just couldn't picture myself wearing striking blue eye liner or even eyeshadow without looking slightly clownish.
But when I discovered Pupa's shocking blue Vamp! Eyeshadow and Professional Line eyeliner, I couldn't resist the urge to try these bold and brilliantly pigmented shades.
After a few playful sessions, I am happy to report that I am no longer afraid of electric blue eye makeup. The key to making this trend wearable is to keep it subtle, quite subtle. I think a fine line on the upper lashline or the inner waterline can both look sexy and sophisticated paired with peachy or nude lips. I have enjoyed seeing this tutorial on how to master the eyeliner technique using Pupa's Professional Line Eyeliner with its ultra-fine marker applicator. It's not as difficult as it appears to play with such vibrant hues once you learn all the little tricks.
Now guess who is going to rock electric blue eye makeup on the first hot summer night?
My love of fashion watercolour has been relatively documented on my blog (see my recent post about illustrator Jessica Durant). So when I came about this sumptuous watercolour today my heart skipped a beat. Created by Swedish artist Mats Gustafson, the painting depicts an opulent floral dress part of Raf Simon's first Christian Dior Spring-Summer 2013 ready-to-wear collection. Not only is the watercolour so elegant but the dress itself is ravishing and utterly feminine. Grace Kelly would have been fond of them both.
One of my favourite author, the great Gabriel García Márquez, passed away yesterday at the age of 87. The Colombian novelist was awarded the Nobel Prize for his majestic "One Hundred Years of Solitude", which sold over 30 million copies all over the world.
But it's with "Love In The Time Of Cholera" that he won my heart. If I were stranded on a deserted island and could only choose one book, I would pick this one without any hesitation. It's an exalting and beautifully written love story that takes place at the turn of 20th century in a little port city in the Caribbean. This novel is intense, ageless, exhilarating, highly colourful, often painful but always captivating. A must read!
Here are some fascinating quotes from Gabriel García Márquez:
"It is not true that people stop pursuing dreams because they grow old, they grow old because they stop pursuing dreams."
"A true friend is someone who holds your hand and touches your heart."
"Nobody deserves your tears, but whoever deserves them will not make you cry."
"Tell him yes. Even if you are dying of fear, even if you are sorry later, because whatever you do, you will be sorry all the rest of your life if you say no."
"What matters in life is not what happens to you but what you remember and how you remember it."
"The world was reduced to the surface of her skin, and her inner self was safe from all bitterness."
"There is always something left to love."
Thank you for such wonderful stories Gabriel, may you rest in peace.
Although I am the kind of person who tends to look on the bright side of things and takes each moment as an opportunity to learn and to grow, I must admit that real life isn't always heartwarming and glamorous. While I am usually private about personal matters, for the first time on my blog, I have decided to address a topic very close to my heart: breast cancer.
Until recently, I thought breast cancer was something terrible that only occurred to other women. But when my mother was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer last year, the disease and its repercussions suddenly became real and quite distressing.
Now that my mother has gone through surgery and radiotherapy treatments, my knowledge of breast cancer has grown tremendously. The situation opened my eyes to the importance of adopting a healthier lifestyle such as eating a balanced diet as well as reducing my exposure to chemicals and toxins in beauty and household products.
It also made me more proactive about breast observation because it's simply the first step in taking charge of the health of your breasts.
Did you know that:
In Quebec 6000 women will receive a breast cancer diagnosis this year, and 20% of them will be under 50 years old, before the age at which systematic mammograms are recommended?
Breast cancer is the second cause of deaths among women?
78% of women do not check their breast regularly, either because their are afraid they don't know how or they are convinced they can't do it.

Can you imagine that Robin Wright — aka Claire Underwood in the acclaimed Netflix original series "House of Cards" — is turning 46 today? Stunning, isn't! It's quite fascinating to see how her character has become such a fashion icon since the release of the first season last year. I am so enamoured by her chic and minimalist wardrobe. I simply can't get enough of Claire's tailored shift dresses, her black Louboutin Pigalles, her thick-framed glasses and her Oxford shirts. I don't know about you, but that's totally my kind of power dressing!
Now that we are about to dive into the new season with exciting closet updates, I have to share with you my latest spring skincare find: Weleda's Citrus Collection.
I have had a love affair with lemon for as long as I can remember. I am fond of the yellow citrus because it reminds me of growing up in Europe where the lemon tree is in abundance around the Mediterranean basin. That's why lemon is my favourite scent. I love its vibrant colour as well as its fresh and invigorating fragrance. And who doesn't enjoy gelato al limone on a warm summer night?
I have recently made the conscious decision to use more natural products in my beauty routine. It's simply the best approach for both the environment and my own body. I haven't completely switched to all organic products but I aim to introduce natural cosmetics as much as possible in my daily routine. In my latest search for toxic-free and chemical-free skincare products, I came across the Swiss brand Weleda, which has been making eco-friendly cosmetics since 1921. I was immediately smitten by the lovely fragrance of the Creamy Body Wash and the Hydrating Body Lotion from the Citrus Collection. As much as I like body lotions and shower gels infused with a floral or fruity essence, I'd rather smell the real thing instead of a pungent and genetically engineered scent. Formulated with zesty organic sun ripened lemons, the Weleda Citrus Collection is right up my alley.
My favourite pick from that line is the silky and luxurious body wash. It is so refreshing and revitalising for the skin. And everytime I use it, I can almost imagine myself sipping limoncello in a fragrant lemon orchard on Italy's Amalfi coast. I am now in the mood for spring!
I am really digging the oversized floral print trend this season, I find it quite uplifting.Ted Baker's ultra-modern take on this eye-catching trend is just so chic and feminine. The last dress is beyond irresistible, don't you agree?
The Clarins laboratories have struck gold again! If like me you are searching for the perfect way to obtain that coveted healthy glow without resorting to tanning beds, you will be pleased to know about my latest discovery: the Clarins Radiance-Plus Golden Glow Booster.
The French skincare brand known for its efficient self-tanning line, which includes the famous Delectable Self Tanning Mousse, Delicious Self-Tanning Cream and the Self Tanning Instant Gel, has come up with another wonderful innovation to fix our ghostly pale skin. As much as we like to add a tanning product to our daily beauty routine when April comes around, sometimes it can be quite tiring to introduce another skincare product to the already long moisturiser-serum-sunscreen-primer-foundation-concealer mix.
The lovely thing about Clarins' latest release is the fact that it's so easy to use. You only need to add three drops of the liquid formula to your favourite moisturiser in the morning and at night to achieve a sunkissed glow. It's simple as that! You can even adjust your tan by managing the amount of drops you use. Made with 99.8% natural ingredients, the Golden Glow Booster doesn't have the overwhelming self-tanner smell we all loathe.
I have been using this newcomer for about a week and I am so delighted with the results. My face now has a subtle warm complexion that is very natural looking. I am so glad I discovered one hassle-free way to keep my face glowing all year round.
