Watercolour Enchantment

Sep 10, 2013

I have always loved the striking beauty of watercolour painting or aquarelle as it is named in French. I also have great admiration for the people who have the talent of creating dreamy images with a few strokes of pencil and transparent touches of color.

I am so entranced by watercolour paintings that I even cherish the (crazy) dream of one day owning the famous collection of paintings produced by French artist Eugène Delacroix during his well-documented trip to Morocco in 1832.

But since this particular dream is not about to happen, I have decided to scout the web for some more beautiful and affordable paintings to complete my bedroom decor. After a long search, I have finally found some wonderful images, which will fit perfectly with the boudoir atmosphere that I am trying to put together.

Aren't these watercolours breathtaking or what? I just love how they exude femininity and how luminous and fluid they are. These inspirational paintings are from the gifted and prolific illustrator Jessica Durrant. You can discover her artwork on her website and also on her Etsy store.  Are you also a fan?

Falling For The Tiffany & Co. New Atlas Collection

Sep 6, 2013

Ladies, get ready to add some striking, yet delicate new pieces on your Tiffany's wishlist!

Last week, I had the pleasure of being invited to a private showing of the Tiffany & Co. new Atlas collection.

While I had Breakfast at Tiffany's (it was rather coffee than breakfast, but still!), I discovered that the iconic collection, which was first introduced in 1995, was named after the famed Atlas clock with the Roman numerals that has adorned the entrance of the Tiffany & Co. New York flagship store since the 1850s. The Atlas collection also refers to the mythic Greek god Atlas who was condemned by Zeus to hold up the heavens forever, which symbolizes the timeless aspect of the collection and the enduring legacy of Tiffany & Co. around the world.

The Tiffany & Co. flagship located on 727 5th Avenue in New York City

For this particular collection, the luxury jeweller has streamlined the classic Roman numerals to create an eternally modern look. The result is an array of delicate jewellery with sleek and feminine lines, alternating matte and polished surfaces to create a sensuous play of light.

What caught my eye with the collection is that, from the simple lariat to the bangle in sterling silver to stunning 18 karat gold diamond earrings or even the diamond ring in rose gold, all the pieces can be worn day and night while exuding elegant simplicity.

A few glimpses of my last visit to Tiffany & Co. and my favourite piece of the Atlas collection, the Atlas bangle

New playful, yet refined pieces of jewellery, what else can you expect to come out of a Tiffany little blue box?

A Portrait: Idris Elba

Sep 4, 2013

I first discovered British actor Idris Elba for his brilliant work as business-savvy drug lord Stringer Bell in the American cult production, The Wire. Smitten by his charisma and his commanding presence, I was so pleased to see him land another iconic role as a dedicated detective in the thriller Luther, produced by the BBC. If you are a fan of Elba or simply wish to see his immense talent, you will be delighted to hear that he will be playing Nelson Mandela in director Justin Chadwick's biographical movie, Mandela: Long Walk To Freeedom, which will open in theatre in November.
