Shoe Lust: Bruno Magli Halki Bow-Embellished Velvet Pumps

Aug 29, 2013
Bruno Magli Halki bow-embellished velvet pumps

This is my latest shoe lust: introducing the Halki bow-embellished velvet pumps designed by Italian shoemaker Bruno Magli.

When I first saw these mid-heeled pumps, I first thought they looked like a grown-up version of Dorothy's ruby slippers in the Wizard of Oz, remember the magical shoes that could take Dorothy wherever she wanted to go just by clicking the heels three times? With their statement bow and magnificent crimson red hue, these elegant pumps are sure to stand out in the crowd and give spellbinding power to the lady who will walk in them.

Wild Things: Leopard Print Alert

Aug 23, 2013

Are you seeing leopard print everywhere these days? I am! And I am more than ready to channel my inner femme fatale with some essential pieces from my arsenal and other new exciting pieces I have recently noticed.

While I am still enjoying every last bit of sun (with plenty of SPF, of course!), there is no denying that Fall is right around the corner. As much as I love wearing sundresses and sandals, I can't wait to shop for Fall, the ultimate fashion season.

Wearing leopard print in the autumn always seems to remind me of how Jackie O, Audrey Hepburn and Catherine Deneuve made a statement with this print a few decades ago and even how Anne Bancroft wore it with such elegance in the landmark movie The Graduate.

Not that it as ever really disappear, but leopard print is definitively a major trend BIG this season. Here are some key picks to achieve a fierce and effortlessly sophisticated look. Hope you'll be inspired by them:

Topshop leopard t shirt // Equipment silk pajama set // Dolce & Gabbana leopard shoulder bag // Tory Burch scarve // Dynamite Iphone cover case // STELLA McCARTNEY leopard print glasses // Tweezerman tweezers brow tool // Kate Spade Lottie '13 Camel/Black Leopard Haircalf Pumps

Royal Purple

Aug 21, 2013

I have just spent the last month settling into my new apartment. And while this creative process is far from being done, I am finally starting to feel at home.

As I was busy choosing new furniture, selecting the perfect paint color, buying light fixtures, curtains as well as some cool new gadgets such as my new vacuum cleaner, a tiny and powerful Dyson46 (having so much fun vacuuming now!), I was constantly reflecting on how to create a cosy and elegant environment in my new space. Though some pieces such as a nice velvet headboard or a tufted ottoman bring charm to a room, I came to realize that it's the accent color we choose that anchors a room more than anything else.

It might be the royal frenzy surrounding Will & Kate and their newborn baby or the fact that I have my own Prince William at home (see this Instagram picture or this one) that made me choose purple as the accent color for my sitting area. I first had two walls painted in Benjamin Moore's elephant gray, a warm midtone gray with a chic satin finish (see swatch below).

Benjamin Moore's Elephant gray

I was so thrilled to see that the colour I had chosen turned out to be soft and dreamy. It even appears to have a slight touch of purple, which really pleased me. Now that the main pieces of furniture have been delivered, I am officially in the process of adding the final touch to this room. The hunt for the last details, but not the least, has just begun! I am currently looking for some small nesting tables, a heavenly soft area rug as well as some stylish drapery panels. And the last piece of the puzzle will be to combine throw pillows in shades of purple and others in shades of gray to bring contrast to my soft gray sofa.

I thought I'd share with you some of the photographs I have used as some kind of inspiration board since the beginning of this project. As you can see, I am seriously drawn to these stunning purple details. Somehow, I just can't get enough of the sophisticated and soothing aspect of this grown-up colour and I am aiming to recreate this atmosphere in my own living room, mainly because this room is the focal point when we enter the apartment.

It's so intriguing when new home design stores open their doors just as you are remodeling, revamping or simply moving into a new space like I just did. Lately, I had the chance to visit the new West Elm store a few time since its recent opening in Griffintown and I will definitively be back soon because the place is filled with great decor ideas. And next week, all eyes will be on the new kid in town, Zara Home, which will be opening on August 29th at Carrefour Laval. I can't wait to discover this store! I have visited the one in Madrid quite a few times and always found delightful things to bring back in my suitcase. No need to travel to Europe to buy their bedding, tableware and decorative pillows anymore.

If you have other ideas on where to find some nice decor elements, please feel free to let me know! I am always curious to discover new and existing places.

Turn Your Back On The Crowd

Aug 12, 2013

Zara dress with low-cut back

According to the saying, a woman can never have too many shoes. The same principle may apply to little black dresses since there are always plenty of occasions to reach for one. But this season, all LBD's are not created equal, some are far more mysterious, intricate and sexy than others. On a recent visit to Zara, I came across these fabulously elegant black dresses with divine open back details. I can't decide between the first and last one, what a sassy problem it is. Can't wait to be invited to another cocktail party! Which one would you pick?
