Sophisticated Black & White

Feb 28, 2013

Whether it’s featured in stripes, dots, florals or colour-blocking, high-contrast black and white is back in fashion favour for spring appearing on everything from skirts to stilettos. Here are a few of my favourite chic picks currently available at Winners...at a sweet price.

It might be monochromatic but it's far being boring. Fancy anything?

Chanel By Clémence Poésy

Feb 27, 2013

We all knew that Clémence Poésy was a poised French actress, a muse for many Parisian designers as well as a Chanel Ambassador. But who knew that the bohemian blonde was also a talented painter? Indeed, she created a few adorable watercolours (shown above) to depict the latest Chanel Haute Couture show, which she attented front row. Although her paintings are quite small, her attention to details is impressive, especially when you compare them to the original outfits and massive eye makeup.

I was already smitten by Clémence Poésy, but now I have even more reasons to admire her!

Not Your Average Poncho

Feb 23, 2013

CoatMélissa Nepton/Leggings: JoeFresh/Boots: Nine West/Beanie: Mango/Gloves: Danier /Sunnies: RayBan/Bracelet: Tiffany

I have never pictured myself as a poncho kind a girl. In fact, I don't ever recall wearing one probably because this garment fell in the "I would never be caught dead wearing that" type of category.

But since winter here can feel like groundhog day, especially in the middle of February, I like to play with different coats and accessories to make the cold season a little more exciting. Hence, this grey winter poncho made by Montreal designer Mélissa Nepton. While it's not your everyday coat, this unique poncho has beautiful tailoring details, is surprisingly warm and is quite playful to wear around.

Don't funky and warm designs like these make you love winter?

Matcha Green Tea Latte

Feb 20, 2013

I have had an overdose of winter lately. Between the wild wind gush, the Siberian cold and the many snowfalls, winter is proving to be quite challenging this year.

To increase my energy level, I have decided to try something different than my usual cup of coffee to wake me up in the morning. Indeed, as I was longing for something deliciously creamy, silky and frothy to help me get through the day, I have recently started making matcha green tea latte.

Here is how I prepare it:
1. In large cup, whisk 1 teaspoon of matcha green tea powder with 1/2 cup of hot water (but not boiling, otherwise it will taste grassy, yikes!) until you see a small layer of froth appear on the surface. Set aside.
2. Froth 1/2 cup of almond milk (or soy milk) with a frothing wand or a milk frothing device. I like to use my Nespresso Aeroccino Plus, which works like magic. Pour the milk into the cup of water.
3. Add 1 teaspoon of honey, agave sirup or stevia to sweeten the tea.

While this latte is good and comforting, it is also great to boost the metabolism, detoxify the body and to help the mind stay calm, yet alert. Also, by ingesting the chlorophyll-rich leaves instead of simply throwing away a tea bag once it's done steeping, the matcha tea provides more antioxidants than other types of tea. And it even contains 7 times more antioxidants than dark chocolate! That's plenty of reasons to be sipping this soothing latte.

While this green mixture will not bring springtime any sooner, it is definitively helping me get my mojo back!

What do you do to help you get through winter? I'd love to hear your tricks!

With the abundance of red hued gifts, accessories and messages everywhere in the days leading up to February 14th, it's quite hard to ignore this sweet and sassy holiday. And for many of us, Valentine's Day is a time to reflect on love and romance, to pamper our loved ones and even to hope and dream. -Henry David Thoreau

"You don't love someone because of their looks, or their clothes, or their fancy cars, but because they sing a song only you can hear."
-Oscar Wilde

"There are all kind of love in this world but never the same love twice."
-F. Scott Fitzgerald

"Never love anybody who treats you like you're anybody".
-Oscar Wilde

Love Is In The Air

Feb 5, 2013

With Valentine's Day just around the corner, I thought I'd share with you some recent favorites:

1. The first things are the Zoe lariat necklace and the Renegade cluster bracelet from Stella and Dot, which arrived packaged in a lovely red box. I fell for the chic necklace in mix of gold, rose gold and hematite faceted brass beads because I find it quite modern and feminine. It can be worn multiple ways as a necklace and also as a bracelet, which makes it the perfect travel companion. I just love versatile pieces that allows you to be creative with every single look you create. I can't wait to play with my new babies!

2. This bright tomato red nail polish is the InStyle OPI Red, which I received a few days ago. It was initially released in 2009 and is still offered with every new subscriptions to the magazine. While I usually wear light pink polish such as OPI Bubble Bath, this limited edition true red will be just perfect to channel my inner femme fatale on Valentine's Day.

3. The sleek VICHY Code Pureté line is an early Valentine's Day gift for my husband. He got thrilled to try out the 3 steps skincare routine created to treat and prevent skin imperfections, namely ingrown hairs and micro-cuts. The line includes the Purifying cleansing gel, the Purifying shaving foam and the Purifying hydrating fluid, all packaged in vibrant metallic red tubes, which my husband found quite appealing. While he was initially curious to experiment with this new high-tech line, he is particularly pleased with the shaving foam, which efficiently attenuates razor burn and shaving cuts. Guess who has smooth skin now?

Have you been smitten by red products lately? Please tell!
