The Shoes Of Paris Haute Couture 2013

Jan 30, 2013
Giambattista Valli SS 2013

I swooned at the photographs from the Spring 2013 Couture shows. Who doesn't enjoy an avalanche of tulle, taffeta, ruffles, crystal beadings and lace details? And the shoes were as interesting as the lavish clothing. Here are some graceful models from Giambattista Valli, Valentino, Giorgio Armani Privé and Christian Dior.

My Miami Top 5

Jan 28, 2013
I had the chance to escape the harsh winter cold over the holidays to spend some well-deserved leisure time with friends in Miami. Since I discovered interesting new places during my week there, I thought I would share my findings with you. In case you are heading to sunny Florida in a few weeks, here are a few ideas to look into:

1. Where to stay:
Epic Hotel
270 Biscayne Boulevard Way
When you think Miami, you usually think South Beach. But this time around my husband and I decided to experience another side of the city, mostly because we were keen to experience the EPIC Miami. A local friend of ours recommended this place as we were looking to find a comfortable hotel near her apartment in Downtown Miami. Described as a luxury boutique hotel, this recently opened property has a very sleek and minimalist decor and a friendly staff. While the rooms are spacious, comfortable and elegant, my favorite feature of this hotel is definitively the well-designed pool area, which offers breathtaking views of the Miami skyline and Biscayne Bay. The pool also overlooks the private marina, which seems to be home to some of Miami's fanciest yachts, adding the lobby's glitzy atmosphere. A superb hotel!

2. Where to eat:
Zuma
270 Biscayne Boulevard Way
If you want to enjoy the trendy Miami scene at its best, I highly recommend dining at Zuma, an Asian fusion restaurant located in the EPIC Hotel. The spacious dining room, high ceilings and the open kitchen concept offer a vibrant and chic atmosphere combined with impeccable food (delicious tempura) and attentive service. I suggest sitting at the sushi bar or outside to enjoy the marina.

3. Where to be inspired:
818 Lincoln Road
I have been a fan of the Brazilian neo-pop artist ever since I discovered his Miami gallery filled with colorful paintings, sculptures and serigraphy. I adore how Britto uses vibrant colors and bold patterns to express his joy of life. His energy and enthusiasm are highly contagious. Definitively a must see!

4. Where to buy unique art books:
Taschen
1111 Lincoln Road
The world famous art book publishing company has opened a quaint store in South Beach where you can find an impressive collection of hard to find art books celebrating the best in photography, design, architecture, fashion and more. It's a fun place to browse and shop for big glossy books.

5. Where to get pampered
The Spa at Viceroy Miami
485 Brickell Avenue
Designed by Philippe Starck, this glam spa is a great place to get pampered and inspired. This relaxation palace offers plenty of luxurious treatments in a jaw-dropping setting overlooking downtown Miami. And after a deep tissue massage or a facial (with JLo's facialist, oh yes!), why not take the opportunity to unwind at the library-like water lounge or outside near the stunning pool.

Enjoy your trip!

Shoe Lust: Saint Laurent Paloma Sandal

Jan 26, 2013

Considering the fact that we have just experienced the coldest cold (hello minus 38 Celsius), the thought of wearing summer attire is not the most comforting one at the moment. But it's not because we are in the dead of winter that my lust for pretty shoes is in hibernation like the Canadian grizzly bear. Surprisingly enough, the latest pair of shoes that caught my eyes is not a warm fur embellished boot but rather the Saint Laurent Paloma thick ankle-strapped sandal. With its sleek metallic-silver leather stripes, this stylish model is the perfect way to step into Hedi Slimane's new vision for Saint Laurent.

Do you fancy it too?

Enjoy your weekend! Catherine xx

Winter White Jeans

Jan 24, 2013

When you live where I live, you don't have many opportunities to wear white jeans in the winter. You can always try but you'll soon end up looking like a Dalmatian with the amount of slush on the street!

Now that the snow is melting away, I am more than thrilled to be wearing my white jeans again. There is something effortless chic about wearing white jeans while it's cold outside. Paired with ridding boots and a tailored navy jacket, a brown chunky knit or a camel cashmere sweater, white jeans can be so sophisticated.

How do you style your white jeans in winter?

Tweed and Floral Fluff At Chanel Couture Spring 2013

Jan 22, 2013

I am drooling over the exquisite outfits showcased at the Chanel Couture Spring 2013 event, which took place today at the Grand Palais in Paris. While the smudge eye makeup is rather sombre, I am falling for the distinctive tweed and the feminine silhouettes with delicate collars, structured shoulders and cinch waists. How romantic is this enchantress forest!

Black & White Chanel

Jan 20, 2013

I was smitten when I saw these Chanel dresses on the runway (see previous post here). While we can't appreciate their soft pink and grey hues in this black and white spread, I enjoy how the ruffles, embroidered beads and floral pattern stand out more than ever. I am also fascinated by the fact that they appear somehow vintage and modern at the same time. I would love to wear the quite ethereal first one to my next gala dinner. A girl can always dream! Do you have a favorite one?

Hope you are having a lazy Sunday!

Sparkle, Shine and Glitter

Jan 19, 2013

It's not because the holidays are over that one can't enjoy sparkle, shine and glitter. If it were up to me, I would live in a snowball everyday of the year because life is much more inspiring when you are surrounded by flickering beauty! Here are a few photographs that have captured my imagination lately.

  Are you inspired by brilliance?

Lancôme Teams Up With Alber Elbaz

Jan 16, 2013

In the world of fashion and beauty, some partnerships are more intriguing than others. It's highly the case for Lancôme by Alber Elbaz, the upcoming collaboration between La Maison Lancôme and Lanvin's visionary designer. The limited edition collection will feature highly colorful eye shadows and lipsticks and is set to hit the stores on June 15th.

Lancôme International President, Youcef Nabi, says: "Alber Elbaz is, without a doubt, one of the world’s most influential fashion designers. But beyond that, he is also the most talented. His sense of luxury, his vision of femininity and that hint of audacity resonate perfectly with the new values of Maison Lancôme. We are extremely proud and happy that he is set to channel his universe into the world of make-up for the very first time."

To keep us waiting (with excitement!), the beauty brand has put together a quirky teaser illustrated by Alber Elbaz himself. Adorable, n'est-ce pas?

Golden Globes 2013: My Five Picks

Jan 14, 2013

What an evening it was last night at the Golden Globes! Tina Fey and Amy Poehler did an amazing job at hosting the show! Not only were they hilarious and entertaining, but they were also beautifully dressed throughout the evening. I hope they will be back next year!

Now, here are my five picks for best dressed ladies of the evening:

1. If you have been following my blog for a while, you will not be surprised to know that my favorite one was French actress Marion Cotillard. She was sublime last night in an asymetrical orange red dress from Dior Couture. As always, Marion looked effortlessly chic and balanced the powerful shade of her dress with very natural hair and makeup. It's truly a less is more attitude, which I find quite refreshing.

2. My second pick is another stunning red number. Indeed, Claire Danes looked all glammed up in this Versace dress. Can you even believe that she had her baby on December 17th?

3. My third favorite is perhaps the most femme fatale of it all. It's Jessica Chastain who wore a backless halter gown from Calvin Klein Collection.

4. Julianne Moore wore an amazingly chic dress designed by Tom Ford. This goes to show that you don't have reveal your assets to be elegant and sexy.

5. Kate Hudson wore a showstopper gown by McQueen. The embroidered details at the waist and the neckline were simply exquisite. I somehow feel that not everyone would have looked stylish in this black dress, so I am glad she went for it because she ended up looking divine.

What do you think of my choices?

Valentino Spring Summer Ad Campaign

Jan 13, 2013

One might think that these icy photographs were shot for a Fall campaign, but surprisingly enough, they are part of the Valentino Spring Summer 2013 ad campaign, which was shot by photographer Sarah Moon. I am smitten by the transparent trench coat and the new accessories featuring the famous Valentino 'Rockstuds'. If you enjoy these ethereal images, take a look at the short film, which is now shown on the Valentino website.

Roses Are Reds, Violets Are Blue

Jan 10, 2013

I just received this little "we are very sorry" flower arrangement from a supplier who did not deliver as scheduled. I was rather disappointed at first, but the rose did help soften the blow. Isn't interesting the power of a nice flower arrangement?

Karine Vanasse Is The New Face Of Marcelle

Jan 5, 2013

I was pleasantly surprised to discover that French Canadian actress Karine Vanasse is the new face of makeup and skincare company Marcelle, which celebrates its 80th anniversary in 2013. The Montreal-based company revealed that their new spokesmodel will appear in ads for some of the brand's biggest 2013 Spring launches.

We have been accustomed to see celebrities endorse beauty products, namely skincare, makeup, fragrances and hair products. But what I find exciting in this particular case is the fact that I strongly like the two components of this collaboration. Indeed, I really admire the Pan Am actress for her talent, her wit, her authenticity and for her embrace of natural beauty. On the other hand, Marcelle has been a favourite of mine for years and I have been thrilled with their latest products such as the brilliant BB cream and the colorful eyeshadow quads. This will surely be the beginning of a beautiful friendship!

I am smitten by the Chanel latest extravaganza, which took place at the ruins of Linlithgow Palace near Edinburgh in Scotland. The legendary Métiers d'Art collection draw an audience of 400 people and showcased the craftsmanship of Scottish tweed and cashmere. Here are some behind the scene pictures of this opulent show. Enjoy!

Dior Chérie Bow Palette

Jan 2, 2013

Duty, But Not Free!

I don't know if you are like me but when I go through an airport, I like to kill time at the Duty Free to try on fragrances and swatch lipsticks. That is exactly what I did yesterday as I was flying back home from sunny Miami. As I was walking through the aisles of high end beauty products something exquisitely feminine caught my eyes: the Dior Chérie Bow Palette.

Inspired by the ribbons worn by the Duchesse de Fontanges, a favorite of Louis XIV, the Chérie Bow palette is part of the Dior 2013 Spring collection. The palette comes in two color variations (Rose Perle and Rose Poudre) and is comprised of a trio of eyeshadows, a black eyeliner and a fresh pink gloss.

I couldn't resist this sizzling little palette because of the delicate bow and the gorgeous hues from the cheeky Rose Poudre case. Isn't that a pretty way to kick-start the new year?
