Happy Halloween!

Oct 31, 2012

At last, a day where we have plenty of excuses to eat candies and wear wickedly funny costumes. Totally my kind of day! This Halloween, why not glam up your pumpkin with a delicate lace overlay to express your ladylike style. It's the easiest trick in the book: simply dress your pumpkin with black lace fishnet stockings, which you will then tie at the bottom. And voilà, you'll have yourself the most refined Halloween decor in the neighborhood.

For more about this season's most feminine trend, read my Exquisite Lace post.

Thanks for reading and happy trick-or-treating!

Virginia Woolf once said: " Life is a luminous halo, a semi-transparent envelope surrounding us from the beginning of consciousness to the end." These days life is rather a technicolor affair thanks to a brilliant selection of envelope clutches that instantly add a touch of glamour to any outfit. With their vibrant shades, funky paterns and rich material, these sleek beauties can streamline your look and allow you to go from day to night with great flare.

My Fall Skincare Must-Haves

Oct 24, 2012

Not only is fall an exciting season from a fashion perspective; it is the perfect time to freshen up your skincare routine and prepare for the cold months ahead. While we add layers of clothing and explore the luxurious fall fabrics, why not pamper our skin with effective beauty products that will go the extra mile to keep our face plumped and our body smooth.

Today, I would like to share with you my current skincare regimen. Here are my beauty picks to amp up the moisture factor this time of year:

1. Makeup remover - Nuxe Comforting Cleansing Milk ($20 CAD)
When the weather starts dropping, I like to treat my face to a rich and creamy makeup remover that will not strip my skin from its natural oils. This one has light yet heavenly rose scent, a divine texture and most importantly, it is very emollient.

2. Face toner - Bioderma Sensibio H2O ($19CAD)
This one is a staple in my beauty cabinet (read my previous review here). This product does a great job of removing makeup residue after using the creamy makeup remover. It leaves my face clean and seriously fresh. Love it!

3. Hand cream - L'Occitane Shea Butter Mango Flower Hand Cream ($12CAD)
I already loved their famous shea hand cream and even had one on my nightstand as well as another one in my handbag. But recently, I decided to switch to the new mango essence, which has a fabulous smell while providing valuable protection for my hands.

4. For extra care: Melvita Argan Oil ($25CAD)
Whenever I need an extra layer of moisture or wish to provide radiance to my skin, I turn to this organic oil from France. It is simply amazing for the cuticles, the hair, the face and also the body. Be careful, a little goes a long way!

5. Face mask - Clarins HydraQuench Cream Mask ($39CAD)
This is a mask I use when I want to indulge myself. It is quite gentle and very lightweight but it really helps to hydrate my skin and keep my look fresh before a special occasion.

6. Lips - Eos lip balm ($3.50CAD)
This is another favorite of mine because of the shape, the price and the fact that it's organic. I think there is an Eos balm for every season. This fall, I am fond of the minted one. (See my previous review here).

I'd be curious to know what are your favorite skincare products this season. Do tell! I love to discover new product and get new beauty tips.

Exquisite Lace

Oct 22, 2012
Valentino Couture, 2012

This fall your wardrobe wouldn't be complete without a ladylike piece of lace. While lace is very feminine and romantic this season, it also comes with a twist. Indeed, this exquisite trend takes a turn on the dark side with many dramatic hues such as black, grey and oxblood. I have gathered some of my favorite lace pieces such as an eye-catching dress, a mysterious cape as well as stunning lace-appliquéd accessories to give you some shopping inspiration. Fancy anything?

Exquisite Lace

Alice + Olivia sheer lace dress // Topshop Lace short sleeve shirt // Jason Wu lace coat // H&M knee length pencil skirt // La Perla Maison lace-trimmed silk-satin shorts // Christian Louboutin lace high heels // Dolce&Gabbana lace handbag  // Diane von Furstenberg lace clutch // Stella & Dot lace jewelry
Styling tips:
- For a sophisticated look, pick only one lace item and pair it with a solid color in the same palette.
- For an edgy yet feminine style, pair lace with leather, a striking duo this fall.

Monograms: A Sign Of Prestige

Oct 19, 2012

As you might have noticed, monograms are making a big comeback these days.

Originally used on coins to identify a city or a ruler, these insignia were eventually adopted by monarchs and artists as a signature or a seal. But they became even more popular during the Victorian era when they were adopted by the aristocracy as a sign of prestige. With today's technology, the use of monograms is no longer the exclusive right of a privileged few. Indeed, this stylish distinction is now available to everyone and can be use for adorning almost everything from stationary to wedding invitations as well as jewelry, luggage, clothing, shoes and even iPhone case.

What is fascinating about monograms is the transformative power attributed to these letters. Because when we brand our belongings, aren't we in fact expressing our ideal identity and therefore influencing how we wish to be perceived in society? Interesting, don't you think?

On that note, from all the monograms below, which one would you choose to convey your own unique personality? Do you want to know my pick? I think I would probably go with M29, M54 or M5 because I find them quite sleek and elegant. I'm curious to know your choice...

Lady Crush: Charlotte Rampling

Oct 17, 2012

With a career spanning over four decades and close to one hundred movies, Charlotte Rampling is one of the rare actresses to have been privileged to play in French, Italian and English productions. London-born but now a real Parisienne, this talented actress has always been passionate and resolute about her craft. Indeed, this leading lady has never been afraid to undertake challenging roles and to step into unchartered territories on film. Her legendary beauty and her elegance have made her one of the most sought-after women of her time. But in my opinion, it's her mysterious gaze and her incredible talent that make her an admirable figure.

When you live in Montreal and you have an affection for pretty dresses, there are plenty options available to you. But when you are looking for a tailored dress that exudes femininity with a touch of sassyness, only one name comes to mind: BODYBAG by Jude.

I came accross Bodybag as I was shopping for a cocktail dress. I wanted something stylish and unique to stand out in a crowd. I stepped into their boutique that also serves as an atelier located on 17 Bernard West and discovered a creative and fashion rich universe where the welcoming staff makes you feel right at home.

Launched in 1998 by Judith Desjardins, BODYBAG is the epitome of a chic and urban style. Completely manufactured in Quebec, her collections have been featured many times at Montreal Fashion Week and more recently at Toronto’s L’Oreal Fashion Week. Judith Desjardins has a talent for designing striking dresses. With their body-hugging style, cinch waist and feminine details, her dresses are a thing of beauty. It's no surprise that Nicole Kidman, painter Corno and local stars such as Geneviève Borne and Arianne Moffat were seen wearing her swanky, yet comfortable creations over the past years.

BODYBAG wil be at the Big Fashion Sale by Quebec Designers, which will take place at Marché Bonsecour in Old-Montreal from October 18th to the 21st. It's a great occasion to meet BODYBAG's team and possibly score a new outfit at a sweet price.

Get Trenched, Not Drenched!

Oct 12, 2012

Maya Angelou once said: "I've learned that you can tell a lot about a person by the way (s)he handles these three things: a rainy day, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights". The good news about rainy days is that the trench coat is probably the most coveted piece this season. And, with all the stylish selection available out there, it's now exciting to dress up when it's pouring cats and dogs.

Today, I have curated a few classic trench coats with a feminine twist and paired them with a duo of chic rain boots and umbrellas. Which outfit will you pick to keep you dry and elegant?

From left to right:
Outfit 1Burberry coat // Jimmy Choo wellington rubber boots // River Island printed umbrella
Outfit 2: Mango double breasted coat // Burberry checkered shoes // Burberry logo umbrella
Outfit 3Lanvin double breasted coat // Coach wellington rubber boots // Red heart shaped umbrella
Outfit 4Giambattista Valli leopard print trench coat // Michael Kors rubber shoes // Merde il pleut umbrella

Hope you'll be as happy as me when the weatherman will announce yet another day of rain!

Would You Wear That?

Oct 8, 2012

What were they thinking? That is what went through my mind when my eyes caught this extravagant pair of ankle strap sandals from the Parisian House Viktor & Rolf (similar style here). Quite versatile, these furry stilettos might just be the perfect accessory for your winter escapade. Will it be Gstaad or St. Barths?

Shoe Lust: Pimped Running Shoes

Oct 6, 2012

I have never been one to covet running shoes. In my book, running shoes belong to the gym. Therefore, they have always fallen in the practical category far away from the pumps, the riding boots and the sandals. That is until today.

When the following sneakers caught my eyes, I was ready to slip on a pair and enjoy my weekend with stylish yet comfortable shoes. This might change my entire approach to weekends! What do you think? Do you also like to wear embellished sneakers over the weekend?

The Juicy Palette of Spring-Summer 2013
After Honeysuckle and Tangerine Tango, what will be the official color of 2013 according the Pantone Color Institute?

May I suggest Fruit Punch, Papaya or perhaps Kumquat? I have glanced through various runway styles for spring & summer 2013 and discovered, yet again, lots of orange hues. One thing for sure, it will be a warm and vibrant fashion season. Take a look and please feel free to share your ideas!
