Next Stop Roger Federer!

Aug 4, 2012

Have you heard about the latest stunt pulled by the Brits?

No, it has nothing do with James Bond, the Queen or Mr. Bean's performance with the London Philharmonic Orchestra last Friday. It's something more underground. And by underground, I mean THE London Underground.

For the duration of the Olympics, Roger Federer will be featuring on a redesigned map of the London Underground.

Two sports fanatics, former BBC sports journalist Alex Trickett and sports historian David Brooks, had the brilliant idea of renaming all of the 361 subway stations to honor the greatest Olympians, past and present. Each line is currently dedicated to a discipline such as swimming or tennis, which explains why Federer appears next to Rafael Nadal on the map below. Michael Phelps even gets the honor of being the main Olympic stop, usually known as Stratford station.

Interesting idea, isn't? We already knew the Brits had a wicked sense of humor, now here's another example!

It must be the coolest thing from a tourist's point of view to stop at Jessie Owen or Carl Lewis. But can you imagine the confusion for the locals, and most importantly for the London Underground staff. I'm sure they can't wait for the Olympics to be a thing of the past!
