Mighty Delicious Chocolate Chips Cookies

Jul 31, 2012

Happiness is baking chocolate chip cookies for your loved ones on a Sunday afternoon, or any day for that matter.

That's exactly what I did two days ago. I had a chocolate craving that day (like most of the days I should confess!) so I decided to channel my urge into a baking fiesta. Can you ever go wrong with chocolate?

Here is my decadent recipe with loads of butter and rich dark chocolate chips:

Ingredients:
1 1/2 cup of flour
2 cups of rolled oats
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1 teaspoon of baking soda
1 cup of packed brown sugar
1 cup of butter, softened (not melted)
1 egg at room temperature
1 1/2 cup of dark chocolate chips
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

Directions:
Preheat the oven at 375°F (180°C).
In a medium bowl, whisk the flour, baking soda, salt, rolled oats and set aside.
In a large bowl, beat the brown sugar and butter with a wooden spoon until creamy. Beat in egg and vanilla. Add the flour mixture gradually. Stir in the chocolate chips.

Drop by the cookie mixture by tablespoon onto lined baking trays with parchment paper and bake 8-10 minutes.
Take them out of the oven once the edges turn brown. This way your cookies will be crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside.
Then, let them cool on a baking sheet for about 5 minutes and remove them on wire racks.

Happy baking!

Day O-2! Olympian Karl Lagerfeld

Jul 25, 2012

There is no doubt about it, Karl Lagerferld is a multi-tasker. Between designing sumptuous collections for Chanel, working on his own label  and adding his personal touch to Coca-Cola bottles, makeup, ice cream campaigns, hotel lobby, VIP helicopters and so many other wicked creative projects, one must wonder if he even gets the time to sleep.

But no, Karl Lagerfeld will not be representing Germany at the London Olympics.

In fact, he has much more fashionable plans.

Lagerfeld has just launched an Olympic-themed collection for the high-end department store Selfridges in London. Entitled Team Karl, the highly anticipated collection will only be sold for the duration of the competitions at a pop-up store specially built for the occasion.

Not only the Londoners will experience the Olympic frenzy first-hand but they will also have the opportunity to get their hands on a piece of the Kaiser's unique creations.

There's not a chance this would have happened in Canada.

Aren't you seriously envious?

Day O-4! Olympic Fashion

Dutch 2012 Olympic Uniforms by Adidas

We have all heard by now about the controversy regarding the American uniforms for the Olympics. In case you have been living under a rock for the past few weeks, I'll fill you in. Ralph Lauren was mandated to design the formal uniforms for Team USA. But once they were shown to the public, someone discovered that they were in fact manufactured in China. I guess that's what they call globalization.

Now enough with the polemic. Instead, let's take a look at some of the uniforms, which will either be worn at the Opening and Closing Ceremonies or during the competitions.

British 2012 Olympic Uniforms by Stella McCartney for Adidas

Stella McCartney went highly technical with tight-fitting uniforms, which are displaying the Union Jack flag. I heard that she designed over 590 different models to cover all the disciplines. Impressive!

German 2012 Olympic Uniforms by Adidas

Über-colorful outfits! Isn't it surprising that the German decided to go with really bright outfits?

Canadian 2012 Olympic Uniforms by Nike
Go Team Canada! I like the jacket a lot. It looks like something I would proudly wear to the gym. Tell me where can I find it?

Italian 2012 Olympic Uniforms by Armani
After designing haute couture, ready-to-wear, an array of accessories, home interiors and sumptuous wedding dresses (Charlene Wittstock anyone?), it is not surprising to see Armani create the uniforms for Team Italy. Why I am not surprised to see a lot of black?

Jamaican 2012 Olympic Uniform by Cedella Marley for Puma
These are the most funkiest outfits! Congratulations to Cedella Marley for thinking outside the box. I can't wait to see the Jamaican delegation dress in this fashion.

American 2012 Olympic Uniforms by Ralph Lauren
Preppy, preppy, isn't that surprising? This picture actually looks like an ad for Ralph Lauren!

Which uniforms are your favorites?

I personally find the pictures of the Dutch team quite humorous.  It must be their attitude combined with the punch of color. Very cool!

Day O-5! Vintage Olympic Fashion

I don't usually post on Sundays. But this is no usual Sunday because it marks the 5 day countdown to London 2012.

I am seriously excited about the Olympics. I think you might have noticed it in previous posts, here and here.

To kick start my Olympics Special, I have decided to do some time traveling. Yes indeed. Today, we will go back to the early days of the Modern Olympics.

Weren't they fabulous?

What's In My Summer Bag?

Jul 17, 2012
Summer bag

I said it before and I will say it again, I love summer in the city.

I enjoy the cool festivals, the Grand Prix, the picnics in the park, the backyard barbecues with friends, the sidewalk sales, the fireworks, the Rogers Tennis Cup, the late night walks to the ice cream parlor and most importantly, I find the energy of the city so invigorating.

Montreal is the best place to be in the summertime. But since it can get warm and humid with torrid heat waves, it is important to adapt your makeup routine to the rising temperature.

So here are the key products I like to keep in my bag during the summer months:

1. Evian facial spray ($9.00CAD/travel size bottle): It's always comforting to have a mini bottle of this ultra-fine face mist on hand when the humidity kicks in. This spray soothes the skin and revitalizes my makeup in no time. Aside from using it on my face, I also like to spray it on my neck to be even more refreshed.

2. Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Aventure ($39.00CAD): I wrote about this lipstick in a previous post. Chanel Coco Shine is great if you prefer a lipstick that feels like a lip balm. The texture is simply amazing; it delivers a beautiful shine and it has a nice moisturizing formula. Aventure is a vibrant shade of pink with gold shimmers, which is very fun and flirty for this time of year. Don’t be afraid of the colorful hue, it’s quite sheer once applied on the lips.

3. MAC Blot Powder ($28.00CAD): This might not seem like an exciting product at first but once you start using it, it becomes an essential one. MAC Blot is a great powder to set your tinted moisturizer or my BB cream during the warmer months. It helps to reduce shine on the face by absorbing the excess oil on the t-zone. This pressed powder has a nice silky texture and can either be applied with a big fluffy brush or with the puff that comes with it. The best feature of this powder is the fact that it is achromatic so it will not add an extra layer of color to your face. Thus, you avoid looking cakey or over-powdered.

4. Blinc Mascara ($28.00CAD): This is my latest beauty discovery. I dear friend of mine introduced me to this Japanese product since I was concern with ending up with raccoon eyes at the end of a long hot summer day. With its wand and its thick substance inserted in a long tube, Blinc Mascara appears to be a conventional mascara. But this is far from being the case. This unique mascara forms tiny water-resistant tubes around your lashes, similar to tiny casts. The formula adds volume and length to your lashes without clumping, flaking or smudging. At the end of the day, you won't need eye makeup remover since the mascara can be removed effortlessly with a combination of water and pressure. My sensitive eyes are so pleased! A cool discovery.

5. EOS lip balm smooth sphere ($3.00CAD): I am completely addicted to this line of natural lip balms. At first, I wasn't sure about the egg shape but it’s an innovative feature which makes it seriously enjoyable. It glides easily on your lips and allows you to apply the product on a larger surface compare to a standard lip balm. I am quite fond of the
honeysuckle honeydew one and of the lemon one, which contains an SPF 15.

6. Chanel Coco Mademoiselle Eau de toilette ($104CAD/50ml-1.07oz): I like to try different brands of makeup but when it comes to fragrances, I am a very loyal girl, a Coco Mademoiselle kind of girl. I just can't get enough of this subtle blend of citrus and floral notes. In the summer months however, I sometimes wear La Pausa (named after Gabrielle Chanel's vacation villa in south of France) from “Les Exclusifs” range.  But on most days, I like to wear Coco Mademoiselle eau de toilette, an airier and luminous version of the perfume. Since this summer scent is quite light, I tend to carry the bottle around to add a mist of my signature scent at various moment throughout the day.

Which beauty must-have do you carry around this time of year?
