Sticky, sticky, sticky!

I am willing to bet that they melted all over you when you were a kid. I am also certain that it always irritated your parents that you were covered with sticky popsicle goo in the back of the car. Didn't you try to compete with your siblings for the tongue with the brightest color? You probably still do it today!

Great memories of childhood.

On a cold January day, I bought myself the coolest rocket-shaped popsicle molds. I guess I was seriously longing for summer that day. Five months later, I am thrilled to finally get to use them. What a delight!

Here is a simple strawberry popsicle recipe that I have developed after a few trials and errors:

Crush two cups of fresh strawberries in the blender. Then, add a tablespoon of orange juice and two tablespoons of agave nectar. You could also use sugar instead but I prefer agave nectar because it is naturally sweet and it has a low glycemic index. Once you have all the ingredients, mix them thoroughly, and pour the liquid in the molds and voilà!

Simple pleasures, isn't that what summer is all about?

What is your favorite popsicle flavor?

Pastel Palette

Jun 27, 2012

Mint green, light turquoise, soft pink, creamy white, seafoam green and zesty yellow. The hot pastel trend is in full swing! These deliciously sweet hues exude femininity and airiness. This subtle array of colors conjures up dreamy images while offering a soothing effect.

Though it would be easy to achieve a very girly look with this candy-colored trend, this season's key pieces offer grown-up structure as well as sophisticated details.

Here are a few ideas on how to incorporate this palette of sorbet shades in your wardrobe in a ladylike manner:

My Top 5 Drugstore Beauty Picks For Summer

Jun 23, 2012

Summer is here
Hooray! Summer is officially here!

Since the upcoming months will involve a lot outdoor lounging and celebrating, I thought I'd share my 5-can't-live-without-beauty-products for summer that can be purchased at the drugstore. Ok, maybe not my top 5 but among my favorite beauty products that I like to use in the summertime.

1. Neutrogena Wet Skin Sun Care $12CAD - This is a no-brainer. It's so easy to apply sun protection with this spray. Whether you are applying on dry or wet skin, it works both ways. Plus, it's not sticky and you won't have any whitening effect.

2. Revlon Photo Ready 3D Volume $11CAD - Can't go through summer without a proper waterproof mascara. This is my latest favorite.

3. Evian Mineral Water Spray $18CAD - This is simply my favorite facial mist. I like to carry a small bottle around when the humidity kicks in because it delivers an ultra-fine mist that is so refreshing.

4. Essie Nail Polish in Camera $9CAD - A nice coral polish from the new Poppy Razzi collection.

5. PhytoPlage Protective Beach Hair Spray $22CAD - My favorite hair care product for summer because it protects my hair from chlorine, UV rays and salt water while providing moisture and shine.

Rebecca Minkoff Cover Of Call Me Maybe

Jun 21, 2012

Thought I'd share this witty video with you today!

It's fashion designer Rebecca Minkoff doing a cover of Call Me Maybe while getting ready with friends to attend the 2012 CFDA Awards. It has been filmed in a suite at the Thompson Hotel in New York City and it also features model Hilary Rhoda and Leandra from the Man Repeller.

My favorite dancer is definitively the cute baby with a smiling face all along.

We have already seen thousands of similar cover but this one is simply happy and cool. Makes you wish you were there.

Hope you'll enjoy!

Cesare Paciotti Wedge

Summer shoes are a promise of exciting adventures to come. A promise of territories to discover or re-discover. A promise of new memories to be made.

With a great assortment of flat sandals, flip flops, high heels, platforms, wedges or espadrilles...

Between the nudes, the metallics, the embellished, the color-blocked and the wildly colorful...

There is something for everyone this summer!

Here is a round-up of my summer picks in the shoe department:

I Am Swept Away By The Olympic Fever...

Jun 17, 2012

...although it only starts in 40 days.

I can't wait to watch the athletes compete in about 300 events in the pool, on the track, on the court, on the diving board, on the parallel bars, in the ring, in the lake, on the tatami. You get the idea.

I can't wait to the watch the Opening Ceremony while eating fish and ships.

I can't wait to listen to the national anthems and to see the Olympic flame be lit in honour of the London Games.

I can't wait to see the 10 000 athletes representing 204 countries enter the stadium with their colorful outfits and their hopes and dreams.

I cant' wait to see what Kate will be wearing.

I can't wait to see who will be performing when all eyes will be turned to the English capital on July 27th.

Indeed, my Olympic fever is already in full swing.

And today, I am a tad more excited about the upcoming Olympic Games since I have come across this trendy pair of ballerinas embellished with the Union Jack.

They are specially made for the occasion by London Sole, a company "devoted to making the most beautiful ballet flats in the world". Already favoured by the Royal Family and celebrities around the world, these chic flats have even been named the "Queen of Ballet Flats" by Vogue Magazine.

Aren't they funky?

Making Of - Louis Vuitton Fall 2012 Ad Campaign

Jun 14, 2012

Following a magnificent runway show in March, where models walked outside a steaming locomotive in the Louvre Museum, the Louis Vuitton Express is back on track in the latest Vuitton ad campaign.

Shot by Stephen Meisel, the new campaign depicts the glory days of rail travel where elegance and glamour was paramount.

Take a peek at the making-of video below:

Isn't that sumptuous and romantic?

Wouldn't it be wonderful to be able to go back in time to experience the luxurious extravagance of train travel, with its dining carts, sleeping compartments, bag porters, onboard pianist, incomparable scenery and uncompromising level service?

How To Apply Self-Tanner

Jun 12, 2012
Sun bathers from the 1950
Do you sometimes envy the sun worshipers of the past? Do you wish you could have their nice sunny glow?

But these days, you dread applying self-tanner. You wonder how to avoid an orange fiasco. And you feel lost when it comes to choosing the proper sun tan for your budget.

Here are a few pieces of advice.

I have learned to apply self-tanner with the help of a friend who works at a well-respected beauty counter. Here are the tips she graciously offered me in order to achieve a flawless sun tan application:

1. Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate to remove dead skin and help minimize streaks and dark creases.

2. Apply a thin layer of moisturizer on the targeted area to prepare the skin for an even application of the self-tanner. Be extra careful with the ankles, the knees or the elbows, which tend to be on the dry side.

3. Apply self-tanner lotion/gel the same way you would apply moisturizer. Apply it sparingly on the top of your feet but avoid applying it on your toes or on your heels.

4. Once you are done, wash your hands thoroughly without forgetting to brush your nails to avoid orange hands disaster.

To that, I might add another advice: take your time! It takes time and dedication to apply self-tanner the proper way, so put on some music, pour yourself a drink, and enjoy the moment!

Now, here are my favorite picks in three different price range:

Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer $9CAD
Not only is this affordable but it is also very moisturizing on the skin.

Avène Autobrozant $27CAD
This one gives a natural glow and does not contain any harsh chemical, which is perfect for sensitive skin.

This cream is silky soft and it offers a nice golden tan. Plus, it is slightly colored, so you know exactly where you have applied it.

Which self-tanners do you use or love?

Fresh Sugar Coral Lip Treatment SPF 15

Jun 10, 2012

I was introduced to the Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment two years ago and I haven't gone a day without it since.

I fell in love with this tiny metallic tube for its soft buttery feel, its heavenly lemon scent but most importantly for its powerful emollient factor.

This balm is in a category of its own when it comes to nourishing the pout. Its formulation is highly moisturizing, unlike anything else I have tried before. I am particularly fond of the silky effect, which lasts much more longer than ordinary lip balm. There is no doubt about it, this is truly a luxurious product.

With the coral frenzy everywhere these days, it's not surprising to discover the latest addition to the Fresh Sugar Line, a highly pigmented coral-tinted lip balm. This new lip treatment offers a nice flush of color while providing the same amount of smoothness and softness as the others.

 Just in time for summer!

Fresh Sugar Coral Lip Treatment SPF 15 is now available at Sephora $23CAD.

5 Reasons I Like June

Jun 7, 2012
1. It's Espadrille Season!
Did you know that espadrilles originally come from the Basque country in Spain where they have been handcrafted for over a century? Did you also know that they became popular oversea around 1948 when Lauren Bacall wore them in the movie Key Largo? The lovely model above is from Aldo.

2. Strawberries
Strawberry shortcake is very nice but I prefer to eat my strawberries French style, I prefer fraises au sucre.

Here is my simple recipe:
I dice about 2 pints of strawberries, I add a spoonful of sugar and a tad of lemon juice and lemon zest. I like to serve them in tall glasses and when I am feeling daring, I sometimes add a bit of whipped cream (or crème chantilly) on top. Quite refreshing!

3. Fedora
I'm a hat kind-a-girl. When it gets warmer outside, I can't wait to put on my straw fedora hat. It's so stylish, flirty and easy to wear. I like the presence and the slightly masculine edge it brings to any look. A summer staple! Here is Jessica Alba wearing a beautiful cream one.

4. Capri pants
I have always loved capri pants. I think that they are simply the perfect summer pants. When done right, they can be chic and sophisticated. No wonder Audrey Hepburn was already a fan back then.

In terms of color, black ones are elegant and ladylike but colorful capri are much more modern and definitively cooler!

5. Ice cream of course!
It ain't summer without ice cream.

Have A Nice Trip Mom!

Jun 5, 2012
My lucky mother is going away to Barcelona in a few days.

Barcelona, a city of great culture and architecture (La Rambla, Gaudi, Picasso, the Palau de la Musica Catalana, Santa Maria Del Mar, etc.), a city of many culinary delights (tapas or pintxos, fresh seafood, Catalan cooking, hot chocolate, etc.), a city known for its legendary football team (FC Barcelona) and obviously, a city blessed with charming people and endless fiesta.

For those of us who are staying on the other side of the pond, here are a few glances of what we will be missing...

Bon voyage Mom!

(And please get me some hand-made caramels at Papabubble!)

Giorgio Armani Écailles Luxury Edition Eye Palette

Jun 1, 2012

There are no words to describe how stunning is this new piece from the Giorgio Armani Écailles Makeup Collection for summer 2012.

The Écailles Luxury Edition Eye Palette is a piece of art. A pure delight for the eyes. A grandiose ode to the ocean.

The beautiful black lacquered compact ornamented with handcrafted black mother-of-pearl is presented in a black velvet pouch ($95CAD). The package holds four harmonious sea-inspired shades, deep sea blue, algae, lagoon turquoise and shimmering crest-of-a-wave white to create a smokey eye with a nautical twist. With glamorous pearly shades, the Eye Palette is elegantly reminiscent of the scales (or écailles in French) on the tail of a mermaid.

The Écailles Makeup Collection is "inspired by the play of moonlight on the ocean, by myriad shades from inky depths, by whites and black pearls", as mentioned by Linda Cantello, International Make Up Artist for Giorgio Armani Cosmetics.

The limited-edition luxury item is the prettiest thing I have seen in cosmetics in ages. Even though the eye-shadows have the most sumptuous texture and their color reminds me of the Mediterranean Sea, I think I will leave it on my vanity simply to enhance the scenery.

The Giorgio Armani Écailles makeup collection is now available at Giorgio Armani Cosmetics Counters and at Holt Renfrew.
