Fresh, Fresh, Fresh!

May 29, 2012

During the cold months, I tend to choose my cleansers for their ability to lock-in moisture and to provide soothing comfort to my skin. But once spring starts to bloom I like to opt for lighter formulas, preferably ones that will keep my complexion fresh and shine-free. Here are my current favorite cleansers:

Simple Refreshing Facial Wash Gel 150ml ($9.99CAD)

I absolutely enjoy washing my face with a gel cleanser when the temperature gets warmer because I find this type of formula to be seriously refreshing.

At the moment, I am fond of the Simple Refreshing Facial Wash Gel, a new cosmetics brand from the U.K.

I must say that I have been drawn to this product by the fact that it does not contain any soap, dyes, artificial perfumes and most importantly, no harsh irritants. It does not even contain sodium laureth sulfate, often used in many cleansers, which can strip skin from its natural oils and leave it dry and irritated.

This gel is quite gentle, it removes all the impurities without leaving any residue or drying out my face. It's also nice that a little goes a long way. In fact, you only need a pea size every time you wash your face.

The tube is far from being sexy but as long as the product delivers, I'm fine with it.

Bioderma - Crealine H2o - Ultra-Mild Non-Rinse Face and Eyes Cleanser ($20CAD)

This ultra-mild multi-tasker has been a secret weapon of mine for many years.

I prefer to use Bioderma to remove the residues from my face after using my cleanser and also as a toner. The trick with this is to soak a cotton pad, apply it to your face and repeat the process until the cotton pad gets completely clean. It's almost mystifying the first time but I can assure you that it will work every time.

This product is so gentle; the cucumber extract really soothes my skin and helps me achieve a fresh and squeaky-clean feel. I particularly like the fact that this never dries out or leave my skin tense afterwards. It is also impressive when it comes to removing water-resistant make-up especially very thick mascara.

Plus, this product is soap-free, foam-free and has a neutral pH, a real delight for your pores.

Marcelle Hydra-C Double Action Cleansing + Exfoliating Cloths 25 wipes ($12.50CAD)

I am not a big user of facial wipes in general simply because I have had the same cleaning routine for years and I don't mind removing my makeup late at night or when I am really tired. However, I must confess that wipes are great to pack in your suitcase when you travel or to keep in your beauty drawer for the occasional lazy night.

Over the years, I have tried different brands of wipes and I often thought that they were either too perfumed or simply too harsh for my skin. That's until I discovered the Hydra-C Double Action Cleansing and Exfoliating ones from Marcelle.

When you have less time to remove your makeup it is quite convenient to choose a product that will do all the work for you and even go the extra mile to pamper your skin. These cloths contain vitamin B and E and offer two different sides: a soft cleansing one and another side to exfoliate the skin. I find them very convenient because they make it easy to wash your face.
One wipe usually removes all my makeup and leaves my face fresh and clean without ever irritating my eyes. And the gentle exfoliating helps sweep away dead skin leaving my complexion clean and fresh. It's a nice combo to have around.

Electric Blue Palette

May 26, 2012

They say fashion trends fade but the good ones always come back. It is absolutely true for electric blue, aka cobalt blue.

All through the ages, this deep blue has been a very expressive color. At the beginning of time, for instance, cobalt mineral was used by the Egyptians, the Greeks and even by the Ancient Chinese to create glass, jewelry and decorative objects.

Even Vincent van Gogh once wrote to his brother: "Cobalt Blue is a divine colour and there is nothing so beautiful for putting atmosphere around things". It is also the case for Renoir who used this extraordinary pigmented blue to depict the latest women fashion in his paintings.

It is no surprise that the enthusiasm for this vivid hue remains nowadays. In fact, you probably have noticed that cobalt blue is everywhere this season from flamboyant dresses, to dashing accessories and daring makeup. Even Jay-z and Beyoncé couldn't resist the electric blue frenzy and recently named their first child Blue Ivy.

Here are a few ideas on how to integrate this "divine colour" in your wardrobe this season:

Chanel 2013 Resort Collection: Let Them Eat Cake!

May 23, 2012

A few days ago, Karl Lagerfeld introduced his 2013 resort collection for Chanel. The extravagant affair took place in the gardens of Versailles and was reminiscent of Marie-Antoinette's frivolous era.

The models strolled around the Bosquet des Trois-Fontaines introducing a collection were denim, pastel-colored dresses, platform sneakers and pink makeup where the centerpieces.

The colorful event reminded me of the opulence depicted by Sofia Coppola in her whimsical movie Marie-Antoinette. Though I am very fond of this movie for its polychromatic costumes and accessories, its dashing hair pieces, its vibrant music and its appetizing sweets, I'm not quite sure I would go to the extend of embracing this larger than life fashion. That being said, there is nothing like seeing an assortment of candy-colored clothing to make me crave Ladurée macarons!

Here are a few glances at the collection:

Is this too over-the-top for you?

Prada Presents "A Therapy", A Film By Roman Polanski

May 22, 2012
Prada unveiled its first short film today at the Cannes Film Festival. Directed by Roman Polanski, the three-minute film features Helena Bonham Carter and Ben Kingsley and takes place at a Psychiatrist office in New York City.

It is a brilliant surprise. Brilliant because it is well shot, beautifully acted and deliciously clever.

"It's very refreshing to know that there are still places open to irony and wit and, for sure, Prada is one of them, " said Roman Polanski. I fully agree and I hope you'll enjoy it!

5 Reasons I like May

May 20, 2012
1. The warm weather entices me to kick-start my day with a delicious smoothie. Here is my berry blast recipe: 1 cup of almond milk, 1/2 cup of blackberries, 1/2 cup of blueberries, 2 tablespoons of flaxseed, 2 teaspoons of honey or a bit of stevia.

2. It's officially time to store away my winter boots and step into my pretty ballerinas.

3. May 1st is Labor Day in France and it is also the day where the French exchange well-wishes and sprigs of lily-of-the-valley (or muguet) to their loved ones in honor of the coming season. Everywhere around Paris you can find people selling little bunches of muguet for one or two euros. And everywhere you walk you smell the delicate scent of this May bells. It is a heart-warming day.

4. It's time to wear flirty lip color. Feminine corals, tender peaches, fierce oranges, exotic tangerines, vibrant pinks and passionate reds, nothing is off-limits.

5. And it's lobster season!

Chanel Rouge Coco Shine

May 17, 2012

A few months back, I received an iconic gift: a tube of Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in the shade Aventure. I was quite eager to use it straight away but I thought the rose hue and the shiny finish would be more fun and flirty in the spring time. (Don't ask me how I managed to wait!)

Needless to say it has been a long wait but it was definitively worth it!

I must say that this creme lip color is not your classic lipstick. It is more a cross between a lipstick and a lipgloss and it's precisely what makes it so pleasurable for the lips. I have always been a lipgloss kind a girl and just recently grew up to wear and appreciate lipstick. That's why I was glad to discover that Coco Shine has a glossy effect and a balm-like feel, which is particularly hydrating.

I am also fond of the warm shade of pink, which contains a hint of golden sparkle. The color is absolutely luscious in the tube but is rather on the sheer side once applied on the lips. It is an easily wearable pink and it will give your lips the perfect flush of color for the warmer months.

My experience with Aventure is memorable but not exactly long-lasting. In fact, the color usually lasts a good two hours but the shine fades away after only one hour. But I don't really mind since it gives me an excuse to pull away the sleek black tube from my bag!

If you shy away from pink lipstick, maybe you will want to try the soft coral En Vogue shade from the 2012 summer collection.

Chanel Rouge Coco Shine is sold for $39CAD at Chanel cosmetic counters in major department stores.
